Le hasard tire les cartes, &agrave; I'artiste d'en faire celles d'un territoire, &agrave; lui de constituer cette lev&eacute;e deformes en figure d'une histoire ou d'un monde.<br />Remous aux teintes &eacute;touff&eacute;es, grumeaux crayeux.Couches, plissements, failles, soul&egrave;vements, solfatares, coul&eacute;es,&eacute;cumes.<br />Une minuscule g&eacute;ologie semble ici &agrave; I'&oelig;uvre, fr&eacute;missante de touteson impatience &agrave; devenir biologie. Lin&eacute;aments deviennent ligaments ou filaments, qui s'&eacute;tirent, se bouclent, se gonflent et deviennent cellules, cellules qui, &agrave; leur tour, fermentent, bourgeonnent etdeviennent organes, lesquels enfin se tordent, se ramifient, s'&eacute;vaginent, se cornent, se d&eacute;plient, se d&eacute;ploient, se d&eacute;taillent et se fontorganismes, trognes, dragons ou gnomes.<br />Tr&egrave;s vite I'on passe de la charpie des formes &agrave; la forme des harpies, tr&egrave;s vite du brouillon de peinture au bouillon de culture, o&ugrave; grouillent plus de monstres que n'en firent jamais matrices ou &eacute;prouvettes.Partout sur ces remous le regard attentif devient levain de formes,famili&egrave;res ou impensables, mais pr&eacute;sentes, omnipr&eacute;sentes. Elles sedressent d&egrave;s que I'&oelig;il commence &agrave; chercher p&acirc;ture. A toutes &eacute;chelles, elles apparaissent, acariens ou l&eacute;viathans, luxuriants insectes ou hordes en haillons. Peu importe la petitesse des formats,ils ouvrent sur I'immense fr&eacute;n&eacute;sie, sur le grouillement immense. De loin et rapidement, se fiant &agrave; la palette et &agrave; la virtuosit&eacute; de distribution des espaces? tout cela pouvait &eacute;voquer Tiepolo; de pr&egrave;s et &agrave; mesure d'un regard plus long surgit un monde aussi habit&eacute; que celui de Bosch, agit&eacute; que celui de Magnasco, hant&eacute; que celui de Coya.<br />Le talent de Clouin est de suciter ce peuple des remous, d'enfavoriser le surgissement entre sa toile et nos yeux, mais sans jamais pour autant fixer quelque apparence s0re. Tout ceci n'aura peut-&ecirc;tre &eacute;t&eacute; qu'illusion fugitive, passag&egrave;re hallucination comme en suscite le regard du fi&egrave;vreux sur n'importe quel papier peint. Maisvoici, nous n'&eacute;tions pas fi&egrave;vreux, et pourtant &agrave; I'instant encore cette toile remuait de toute une transhumance de chim&egrave;res. Alors?
